The importance of building a mailing list isn’t new but it is still a part of affiliate marketing that is often neglected.
If your focus is the internet marketing niche itself, you probably already have a fair sized list and are used to promoting offers and products from other vendors weekly or even daily. It is a powerful asset when used wisely. I know I wish I started earlier doing it.
What I have been doing for a while now is collecting the email addresses of visitors to my niche sites…and it is now really starting to pay off.

Today I am going to try and make sure you don’t make the same mistake I made which left easy money on the table – that could have been fixed overnight…
After making a few small changes to my Google AdSense Ad Units I was able to double my click through rate (CTR) for a consistent and fast improvement in income.
One of first things you are taught when creating a squeeze page or sales letter is to always test different versions of copy and formatting until you get a conversion rate you are proud of. What I, like many, didn’t realize was that this should be applied to all forms of direct response marketing – AdSense included.

Which side of the debate is correct? Is it better to create a lot of mini-sites laser targeted to snipe down a specific keyword or to spend the time on one large site aimed at many different keywords?
There is no right or wrong answer but I do have my own preference that I think uses the best of both worlds…

One of the first steps you need to take care of before setting out to build a money making website is to choose a niche that is both lucrative and achievable – there is no point selecting a niche that is worth a lot of money in a market that you can’t compete in and vice-versa.
Take the time to get the niche selection right in the first place and you will save a lot of money and time down the track.
I know this is just common sense but not everyone gets it right. Many are stubborn; others are just unaware.
I often get emails from people who are struggling to get results and this is usually due to being in a niche with little search traffic, strong competition, or limited ways to monetize. Even after being told about the lack of scope available to improve, a lot of the people struggling refuse to adapt and are stuck working on a project with little potential – don’t be that person!
There are several elements of niche selection that you need to consider before committing to a website:
- Traffic
- Monetization
- Competition

Over my short period in internet marketing I have come to notice that despite all of the information available both freely and through various paid courses, many people still struggle to get their head around both the overall concept in general as well as the finer details that together brings success.
Many people have tasted some sort of success but struggle to move from micro niche sites making only dollars a day to a piece of virtual real estate that you can build a real business around. They get caught up with a process without seeing the bigger picture.
I am currently assisting a Warrior who is passionate about his niche but is struggling to get solid results. We thought that it would be beneficial to other new internet marketer’s if we shared what we were discussing and learning to hopefully help them get a foot in the door as well.
As a marketer, I make a great engineer. I love numbers and stats but you have to forgive my poor writing and communication skills. If something doesn’t make sense then just hit me up and I’ll try and reword it into English!

Well, it has happened again. I have had my progressed halted and set back a couple of months in the matter of moments. Last Monday my host decided to terminate my hosting account for violations of the AUP. No other details than that.
It has taken this long to get the correct backup restore and the databases converted over. My rankings have taken a dive to oblivion but hopefully it is a short visit. I will be making a handful of pretty thin sites at the end of the week to hopefully get my income backup with some exact domain name match websites. Will be interesting to see how they go.
I recommend everyone who relies on a website to have another host that runs a mirror of your site to prevent this from happening to you!
Here is another keyword that I am ranked number 1 for. As you can see, I absolutely blitzed them with backlinks to the page with this one. A lot of these are just the raw link though (no anchor text). They are from forum profile links. There is roughly 20 links using the actual keyword as anchor text on this one. I think because the keyword is part of the domain the raw hyperlink has helped with relevance too.
A point I would like to bring to your attention on this one is how easy it is to overtake You Tube videos even though they have a high PR. This high PR is usually due to internal linking. It is great to get above other keywords with little offsite SEO but once they competition heats up they fade away.
Here is a trial version of Market Samurai for those who aren’t using it yet. It is an awesome piece of software and as you can see fromt he screen shots it does wonders in your competition analysis.

I thought it might be helpful for people who are unfamiliar with analysing competion to post some real work examples of where I have ranked for a range of keywords. Use these screenshots to find an understanding of what is and isn’t beatable. I will post more over time.
In the example below (where I rank #1) you will notice that I have beaten sites with a lot more links to the domain than my own, and that a lack of a Yahoo and DMOZ backlink hasn’t hurt my potential. Domain age also hasn’t caused an isssue.
The backlinks to the page aren’t anything over the top but the anchor text is the exact phrase 60% of the time.
Another tip to look out for is that when you see a page with a large number of backlinks but a relatively low PR – more than likely the backlinks to that page are of poor quality and the site is easy to beat.
If you haven’t used Market Samurai before than I recommend that you try out the trial version. It is enough to get you started and to get a feel of what it offers. Even once the trial has expired you can use the keyword research features for free.

It has been quite a while since I have made a post on this site but I think it is about time I start making regular use of it. Some of the most interesting blogs on the web are from those chasing a goal. This allows for readers to really feel part of a journey and learn a lot on the way.
It has been about 9 months since I started my Internet Marketing and web design journey and everyday I get more and more motivated to make this work and beging working for myself. The amount I have learnt is phenomonal and if I wasn’t juggling a full time job I am sure I could have been making a comfortable amount of money by now.
