Market Samurai SEO Competition Example – Keyword 2

Here is another keyword that I am ranked number 1 for.  As you can see, I absolutely blitzed them with backlinks to the page with this one.  A lot of these are just the raw link though (no anchor text).  They are from forum profile links.  There is roughly 20 links using the actual keyword as anchor text on this one.  I think because the keyword is part of the domain the raw hyperlink has helped with relevance too.

A point I would like to bring to your attention on this one is how easy it is to overtake You Tube videos even though they have a high PR. This high PR is usually due to internal linking. It is great to get above other keywords with little offsite SEO but once they competition heats up they fade away.

Here is a trial version of Market Samurai for those who aren’t using it yet. It is an awesome piece of software and as you can see fromt he screen shots it does wonders in your competition analysis.

Progress Update – Week 3

All sites have gone up slightly in traffic this week but still the Weight Loss site is the only one bringing in enough traffic to make some cash.  A lot of keywords are sitting on Page 2 so it should only be a few more weeks before traffic starts spiking on the other domains. Most of the traffic is only coming from one keyword sitting at position 3.  I have done an article run using Link Racer on this particular keyword to try and edge it into the #1 spot.

My eCPC is also beginning to rise on the weight loss site as its new domain begins to age.  The sweet spot for the original domain was about 6 months.  Looks promising.

  • Site 1 – Weight Loss – 720 UV (9 months old, new domain 3 months)
  • Site 2 – Home Improvement – 206 UV (8 months old)
  • Site 3 – Health – 265 UV (6 months old)
  • Site 4 – Beauty – 192 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 5 – Beauty/Health – 212 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 6 – Health/Diet – 106 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 7 – Beauty – 94 UV (2 month old)
  • Site 8 – Amazon Site 1 – 81 UV (< 1 month).
  • Site 9 – Amazon Site 2 – 65UV (< 1 month).
  • Site 10 – Amazon Site 3 – 15UV (< 1month).

Progress Update – Week 2

This week saw a large drop in the weight loss site but luckily the others are slowly growing in impressions.  Hopefully once the weight loss bounces back up again the AdSense will follow.  I also created 3 news sites working on an Adsense/Amazon combination.  These are hub based sites with a plan for a large amount of content so I won’t be revealing the overall market for these 3 sites.

  • Site 1 – Weight Loss – 623 UV (9 months old)
  • Site 2 – Home Improvement – 183 UV (8 months old)
  • Site 3 – Health – 327 UV (6 months old)
  • Site 4 – Beauty – 172 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 5 – Beauty/Health – 145 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 6 – Health/Diet – 105 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 7 – Beauty – 44 UV (1 month old)
  • Site 8 – Amazon Site 1 – New
  • Site 9 – Amazon Site 2 – New
  • Site 10 – Amazon Site 3 – New.

Market Samuari SEO Competition Example – Keyword 1

I thought it might be helpful for people who are unfamiliar with analysing competion to post some real work examples of where I have ranked for a range of keywords.  Use these screenshots to find an understanding of what is and isn’t beatable.  I will post more over time.

In the example below (where I rank #1) you will notice that I have beaten sites with a lot more links to the domain than my own, and that a lack of a Yahoo and DMOZ backlink hasn’t hurt my potential.  Domain age also hasn’t caused an isssue.

The backlinks to the page aren’t anything over the top but the anchor text is the exact phrase 60% of the time.

Another tip to look out for is that when you see a page with a large number of backlinks but a relatively low PR – more than likely the backlinks to that page are of poor quality and the site is easy to beat.

If you haven’t used Market Samurai before than I recommend that you try out the trial version. It is enough to get you started and to get a feel of what it offers. Even once the trial has expired you can use the keyword research features for free.

Progress Update – Week 1

Here are the current stats for my portfolio for the last 7 days. This should give you an idea of the results that I get out of the work put in.

My portfolio consists of 7 sites monetised with Google AdSense at the moment.

  • Site 1 – Weight Loss – 800 UV (9 months old)
  • Site 2 – Home Improvement – 184 UV (8 months old)
  • Site 3 – Health – 276 UV (6 months old)
  • Site 4 – Beauty – 104 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 5 – Beauty/Health – 192 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 6 – Health/Diet – 62 UV (3 months old)
  • Site 7 – Beauty – 36 UV (1 month old)

The Weight Loss site is beginning to increase back to its old levels (before the C&D – 300UV/day) which is very promising.

I have stopped focusing much time on Site 2 and Site 3 due to a limitation for expansion.  The clicks are high but traffic is too hard to come by.  In comparision to the latest 4 sites, the competition is very tough.  I do have have keywords on Google Page 1 though.

I wouldn’t attempt to do a site for similar keywords these days.  You need to have as much room as possible for more and more long tail words.  If the site works and pays well you really want to milk it for all its worth.  It is easier to get a page up the ranks on an established site then creating a new domain and making it into a thin (worthless) site.

I spent a lot of time trying to nail those sites but after 6 months I discovered that there are a lot more easier words to tackle.  It is very important that you spend time in finding the right keywords.  This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experiment.  If I didn’t try to make those 2 sites successful I wouldn’t have found out that it is possible to rank for what now seem impossible keywords. It helped find my limits.

I will be posting regular Market Samurai SEO screenshots and highlighting where my page sits for those terms just to give you an idea of what is and isn’t possible.

What I Have Learnt in 9 Months Using AdSense

It has been quite a while since I have made a post on this site but I think it is about time I start making regular use of it.  Some of the most interesting blogs on the web are from those chasing a goal.  This allows for readers to really feel part of a journey and learn a lot on the way.

It has been about 9 months since I started my Internet Marketing and web design journey and everyday I get more and more motivated to make this work and beging working for myself.  The amount I have learnt is phenomonal and if I wasn’t juggling a full time job I am sure I could have been making a comfortable amount of money by now.

Google Adsense – Plan of Attack

Creating a proper work schedule is what I feel is the most important step with making money using Google Adsense, or any type of internet marketing for that matter.  You need to set clear goals and a realistic work timeline.  Your expectations also must be brought into check as the results are not immediate.  If you are looking at producing a lot of microsites to spread out your risk then this is even more important.  The approach can be used for large authority sites also.

Following is a timeline I used when I first started making my sites.  I will go into details for each step in the next few weeks but this should prepare you and get your mindset right.  The benefit of this process is that it doesn’t require any cost.  It is a great method for starting out in Adsense and will produce results.  As these results start to tally up and your portfolio continues to grow you can start looking at other methods that require some expense.

Increasing Your Google Adsense Revenue – Part 1

If you have ever spent any time at browsing internet marketing forums you have more than likely come across some members dabbling with Google Adsense but failing to make any significant money. They curse at how bad Adsense is and that Google is evil and the whole market is dead. If you look at little deeper in those same forums you will also come across a handful of people who are making a small fortune from this same dead network.  The threads are usually the ones with an army of followers latching onto every single word of the author trying to leech out every last drop of information from his or her brain.

What are these handful of people doing that the followers aren’t?  Quite simply they are doing something!  Too often than not, people new to the internet marketing industry spend too much time trying to find the next big thing rather than putting something into action.  By the next week these same people are hassling the next person to post their money making scheme leaving their Adsense venture to gather dust.

Google Adsense is not a fast way to make money but it is a vary scaleable and controllable method that once mastered can produce a relatively stable income.  It relies heavily on organic traffic so learning about Search Engine Optimisation is a must.  Once you know your traffic numbers and have tweaked your website design to obtain a Click Through Rate (CTR) of greater than 5% you will be able to predict your daily income.  From here you either build more sites or you add more content to your site until you have reached your goal.

If you want to make a real go of generating Google Adsense Revenue then you have to start out by prioritizing your time with a proper work schedule.

Over the next few weeks I will post my approach and plan of attack I use to build and promote my websites monetized with Adsense.

How to Add Google AdSense Under Post Titles

In several of my blogs I have created for search engine optimization and marketing experimentation I have monetized them using the popular Google Adsense. One of Adsense’s limitations is that it is limited to only 3 ad units per page. These units need to be strategically positioned for maximum exposure and highest click through rate. The position I choose is to have a letterbox unit positioned directly under the title of individual posts. This means that a reader will have to view the ad before moving onto the content. I also see a lot of questions on how to actually get the ads onto the site.

There are many plugins available to display Google Adsense on a WordPress blog but the one I choose to use is Simple Adsense Insertion (SAI). To use this plugin you simply insert your Adsense campaign code into one of the SAI campaigns and then use the provided tags (< !- - wp_ad_camp_1 - -> or “echo show_ad_camp_1();”) to position them throughout your site.

To display an ad unit under the title of each post you will need to edit your themes template:
